Meeting the "KOREOS"

K-pop cover dance videos amass tens of thousands of views on YouTube. These videos are shot in various locations worldwide, spanning from a Santa Monica pier to a public park in Moscow.

Within these clips, youthful dancers, often adorned in vibrant and synchronized attire, flaunt their choreography to a captivated audience, synchronized with the latest K-pop chart-toppers resonating from the speakers. Exuding an air of self-assuredness, the dancers almost resemble protagonists in their own music videos.
In 2014, KOREOS was born at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) through the joint efforts of two exceptional dancers, Ellen Min and Kimberly Chyu. Over the years, this cover dance team has flourished into a thriving community of 36 talented dancers. Their journey has been marked by exceptional dance skills, a commitment to growth, and a strong emphasis on team culture, earning them acclaim in the world of K-pop dance covers. As Koreos ventures into new leadership roles and expands its online presence, let’s delve into their remarkable story and future aspirations.

KOREOS conducts auditions biannually during the Fall and Winter of the UCLA school year. Although initially rooted in UCLA, they now welcome individuals aged 18 and above from diverse backgrounds, fostering inclusivity within the group. The audition process is rigorous, seeking not only exceptional dance talent and performance quality but also individuals who exhibit the potential for personal growth. KOREOS places great value on a positive team culture, emphasizing attitudes of humility and camaraderie.

Throughout the academic year, KOREOS members devote themselves to a mandatory weekly Sunday practice. Some members further dedicate their time to participate in dance covers, attending 2 to 4 practices for each cover. This unwavering commitment to honing their craft has led to consistently high-quality dance performances.

In the digital realm, KOREOS maintains an active presence on their YouTube channel and other social media platforms. They tirelessly produce dance covers, aiming to release around 2 covers per week. This dedication has garnered them a devoted following and the opportunity to collaborate with various idol groups, including Ghost9, Vanner, and AB6ix.

To expand their online presence, KOREOS has implemented new leadership positions with a focus on social media publicity and public relations outreach. These strategic moves are designed to enhance engagement across all platforms, solidifying KOREOS ‘ reputation as a well-known and respected cover dance team.

Operating on a budget based on immediate needs, KOREOS wisely invests funds in enhancing production efficiency, particularly in filming. Notably, KOREOS takes a self-producing approach, with members actively involved in videography, video editing, and graphics. This approach not only saves costs but also fosters teamwork, leadership, and technical skills, enriching members beyond their dance experiences.

KOREOS has ambitious dreams for the future, driven by a collective leadership board rather than a traditional CEO role. This collaborative approach ensures that decisions are made collectively, nurturing a strong sense of community within the team.

In the grand scheme of things, KOREOS aspires to collaborate with more idol groups, cementing their status as a prominent cover dance team. Their ultimate vision is to become a household name, renowned for exceptional dance covers and captivating performances.

KOREOS has transformed into a dynamic and diverse cover dance team. With their focus on skill, growth, and team culture, KOREOS has earned a special place in the hearts of K-pop enthusiasts worldwide. As they continue to evolve and seize new opportunities, their unwavering dedication to their craft and collaborative spirit will undoubtedly propel them to even greater heights in the years to come.
